Walking

Located as it is on the Queen Charlotte Track, the “No Road Inn” is perfect as either your first nights accommodation on a multi day Queen Charlotte Track walk or as a base to take advantage of the lesser known (but more remote) walks in the outer Marlborough Sounds,

No Road Inn Waterfall Walk

Starting just behind the No Road Inn this walk takes you through Howdens Bush Reserve where among virgin native forest birdlife abounds in this largely untouched wilderness.

This uncrowded, unspoiled walk takes 1½ to 2 hrs return at a leisurely pace and a packed lunch can be provided for you to enjoy under the waterfall.

Glow Worm Walk

Just one minutes walk from the No Road Inn we have our own “Glow Worm Grotto”. You could imagine you are looking a the stars when these little fellows light up at night.

No Road Inn Forest Platforms

We have two secluded platforms in our private bush reserve.

Take a couple of deck chairs and a bottle of wine and enjoy total peace and isolation with the friendly birds under virgin native forest.

Giant Rimu Trees

A five minute walk from the No Road Inn we have giant Rimu Trees estimated to be up to 1500 years old. These trees could be the oldest Rimu trees on private land in the Marlborough Sounds.

Antimony Mines Walk

20 minutes walk along the Queen Charlotte Track, across the swing bridge, you will come to the turn off to the old Antimony mines.

150 years ago there were up to 300 people living and working in the mines along with schools and shops. You can still see the old mine shafts and railway irons.

Just past the mines there is a clearing with magnificent views over Port Gore and across the Cook Strait to the North Island.

Punga Cove Walk

Walk from the No Road Inn to Punga Cove Café, a 4 hour easy stroll. Have lunch and return by water taxi back to the No Road Inn.

Hammocks

Is lying in a hammock reading a book really an “activity”?

We think it is so we have more hammocks than guests, you won’t have to share a hammock unless you want to.

Kayaking and Fishing

Take our catamaran kayak across Endeavour Inlet to a quiet beach and enjoy some solitude. We can supply you with fishing lines and a picnic lunch.

Swimming

There is a safe swimming beach right in front of the No Road Inn, so be sure to bring your togs.
